Having to find new snacks to replace ones you love, is one of the more challenging adjustments when starting a gluten-free diet. There are many gluten-free cookies on the market, but they can be expensive, and some of them are very disappointing. That’s why it was so exciting when the gluten-free version of the classic Oreo sandwich cookie was released. However, is the gluten-free version good enough to live up to the Oreo legacy? We’ll answer that question in our gluten-free Oreo review and why it has earned our GFF Seal of Approval.

Gluten-Free Oreo Review

First off, the packaging…

Reading labels is a critical step when going gluten-free, as you have to confirm that there are no hidden or alternate sources of gluten in the ingredients. The packaging for the Gluten-Free Oreos clearly identifies the ingredients and also that the cookies are made in a gluten-free certified facility.

Gluten-Free Oreo Review: Look and Mouth Feel – Scored 20/20

The Gluten-Free Oreos look exactly like the traditional Oreo cookies, that I grew up eating- so they live up to the expectations of the brand. They have a great texture that mimics the original perfectly, with the crisp cookie and creamy filling. This is unlike other brands of gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies, which tend to be too crisp. I definitely would purchase these again. When I find them on sale, I buy an extra package. This is because the only thing that could make these cookies better, is getting them on sale and being able to buy more. They are that good.

Gluten-Free Oreo Review: Taste – Scored 20/20

I think the score for this section speaks for itself. Based on taste, you’d never know you were eating a Gluten-Free Oreo. They have the perfect taste of a classic Oreo. There is no aftertaste to the Gluten-Free Oreo cookies, unlike other brands who have tried unsuccessfully to make their own version of this iconic chocolate sandwich cookie. Some other brands left a greasy coating on the tongue from the creamy filling, but the Oreo brand has managed to avoid this pitfall. Chef kisses all around.

Gluten-Free Oreo Review: Misc – 8/10

As with many gluten-free products, where they lose points is when it comes to value. Overall, gluten-free versions of foods, tend to be in smaller packages that cost more than their regular counterpart. This is the same for the Gluten-Free Oreo. The package is roughly 200g smaller and costs almost double the original cookie price. However, the package of Gluten-Free Oreos is larger when compared to other gluten-free sandwich cookies. Thus, if you are comparing them to other gluten-free cookie brands’, and not regular Oreos, the value is considerably better. Plus, Oreo has a brand reputation to uphold.

Overall, Gluten-Free Oreos scored 48/50. If you haven’t tried Gluten-Free Oreos, I highly recommend that you do. Gluten-Free Oreos are the perfect sweet treat to keep on hand in your home. If you are craving a good packaged cookie, then this is the cookie for you. You will not be disappointed – it is so similar to what you remember, the fact that it happens to be gluten-free, is secondary. That is (or should be) the ultimate goal of all gluten-free products and recipes. Kudos to Nabisco for not compromising on the taste or texture of the gluten-free Oreo and getting them oh so right.

My son’s girlfriend brought the Gluten Free Double Stuffed Oreos for dessert a barbeque. Everyone loved them. At the time I was not gluten free but after some pretty scary stomach issues I started converting to gluten free. I love my GF oreos and just so happen to have 2 packages hidden away for when I need a chocolate fix.
